Native & Exotic Canids at WRR

Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation (WRR) has rescued wolves, foxes, coyotes, and "hybrids" since 1978 when we rescued our first wolf who was kept at a research facility.

We provide them with the company of like species in large, outdoor settings. The wolves and hybrids have over two acres with stands of oaks and hackberry trees. The coyotes' enclosure encompasses the same amount of space, only with fewer trees. The majority of coyotes we rescue are able to be rehabilitated and returned to the wild. Like all released animals, they are set free on private property where no hunting or trapping is permitted.

WRR has rescued foxes over the years. These were usually animals being illegally held as pets and were often brought to WRR by game wardens who had confiscated them.

In our first years of operation we were involved in a rescue of over twelve hybrid foxes who had been rescued from the horrors of a fur farm. These fortunate animals lived at WRR for over ten years in a large outdoor area. They lived as a compatible, non-breeding group and enjoyed the peace and security of a life finally free of torture and cruel confinement. When they died, they did so in the company of each other as they would have in the wild.

As is true with all wildlife, coyotes, wolves, and foxes are not here to be exploited by us. The same is true of hybrids. Countless animals suffer and die every day as a result of the cruel trade of breeding and selling these so-called hybrids. They are not here to entertain or us or provide us with companionship. They are on this planet to live lives of peace and freedom in a natural state. This is the least we can do for them, to let them live as nature intended.
