Animal Sanctuary

Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation (WRR) provides permanent residence to over 600 animals. We care for parrots, several species of primates, such as lemurs, spider monkeys, macaques and marmosets, native and non-native felines (African Lions, Jaguars, Mountain Lions, Bobcats, Bears), as well as non-releasable native Coyotes, Wolves, squirrel species, and many domestic chickens, sheep, donkeys, goats, and pigs.

All of the animals who call WRR home are non-releasable due to physical or emotional disabilities or are non-native animals who, even if they were able to be returned to their native lands, would have no chance of survival there. WRR's permanent residents have been subject to a variety of abusive and neglectful situations. They have been victims of the exotic "pet" trade, rescued from roadside zoos, abandoned on the side of the road, or used in research laboratories. We care for Bobcats who have been declawed and defanged, elderly macaque monkeys who have lived their entire lives prior to WRR in a small box in a research lab, Mountain Lions who were declawed and kept as pets, and farmed animals saved from the slaughterhouse.

Each resident is provided with the best possible captive living situation. We build and maintain large enclosures, most of which are more than an acre, for example, we have a 2.5-acre Wolf enclosure and a 6-acre primate compound. Each animal is provided with what he/she needs. The 4.5-acre wooded Mountain Lion enclosure is placed around a rocky bluff — an environment perfect for climbing. Primate enclosures have trees and wood climbing structures. No animal lives behind bars in a small enclosure on a concrete slab. We have taken what nature has provided and simply fenced it in for the animals to give them a lovely home for the rest of their lives.

Our team of Animal Caretakers and Interns care for the animals 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They provide a safe, clean and interesting place to live, the right diet, and then step back to let the animals live a life as close to what nature intended as is possible in their captive settings.

Experienced, long-term Volunteers may have the opportunity to assist the Animal Caretakers in caring for these beautiful animals.

In keeping with our philosophy of respect for wild animals, WRR is not open to the public.
