Global Federation of Sanctuaries (GFAS)

The Global Federation of Sanctuaries (GFAS) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to facilitate coordination of animal sanctuaries around the world, establish and carry out an agreed-upon accreditation and certification process to objectively verify that animal sanctuaries are providing animals the standards of care that they deserve, provide animal sanctuary operators with specific guidelines on the humane care of various animal species and assistance to develop their organizations, and educate the public about the need to treat all animals humanely, the causes and conditions of displaced animals, and the compelling need to actively support accredited sanctuaries.

Earth Share of Texas

Earth Share of Texas is an umbrella organization of 70 local, state, national, and international non-profit environmental groups.

Austin Area Wildlife Rehabilitation

AAWR serves as a resource for anyone who has found a sick, injured, or orphaned wild animal, or has a question about wildlife in general. Our licensed rehabilitators provide at-home care for wildlife in need, with the ultimate goal of releasing them back into their native habitats.

Animal Protection Institute (API)

Founded in 1968, the Animal Protection Institute (API) is a national animal advocacy organization that advocates for the protection of animals from cruelty and exploitation. Every year, billions of animals suffer in fur farms and circus cages, in slaughterhouses and product testing labs. In their campaigns against such cruelties, API uses powerful tools including legislation, public education, litigation, and grassroots networking. They also work actively with media to spread the word about challenges facing animals. API's primary campaign areas currently include animals used in entertainment, captive exotic animals, companion animals, compassionate consumerism, farmed animals, and wildlife protection. API also provides "hands-on" care for animals at the API Primate Sanctuary, located in Dilley, Texas, where more than 400 primates, many of whom were rescued from abusive situations in laboratories, roadside zoos, and private possession, live in as natural an environment as possible with minimal human interference.

Midwest Avian Adoption & Rescue Services (MAARS)

Based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul (Twin Cities) area of Minnesota, Midwest Avian Adoption & Rescue Services (MAARS) provides education and consultations, surrender, rescue, sanctuary placement, and adoption services for captive exotic birds. MAARS' first function is to educate the public and people who already live with birds about proper bird care so they can provide the best homes possible for the birds already in captivity. Their second function is to accept and rescue surrendered, abandoned, neglected, and abused parrots and other captive exotic birds for health care, behavioral therapy, and placement in a new home or sanctuary.

Avian Welfare Coalition (AWC)

The Avian Welfare Coalition (AWC) advocates in the animal protection community for captive parrots and other birds exploited by the pet trade. The AWC is a working alliance of veterinarians, conservationists, and avian welfare and animal protection organizations dedicated to the ethical treatment of parrots and other captive exotic birds. They work to increase public awareness regarding captive bird welfare and facilitate cooperation among their members, the humane community, and professionals in related fields to address all aspects of the live bird trade. These efforts aid in preventing the abuse, exploitation, and suffering of captive birds, address the crucial issues of rescue, placement, and sanctuary for displaced birds, advocate for legal protection for birds living in captivity, and support legitimate conservation programs that may ensure the survival of wild birds and the protection of their natural habitats.

New England Anti-Vivisection Society (NEAVS)

The New England Anti-Vivisection Society (NEAVS), founded in 1895, works to expose and replace animal experiments in laboratories and classrooms with ethically and scientifically responsible modern research methods and to protect human beings who may be subjected to such experiments. NEAVS advocates for the protection of animals through public outreach efforts and publications, through education programs designed to promote greater compassion and respect for life, and through the support of legislative initiatives and litigation intended for the protection of animals.

American Anti-Vivisection Society (AAVS)

The American Anti-Vivisection Society (AAVS) is a non-profit animal advocacy and educational organization dedicated to ending experimentation on animals in research, testing, and education. AAVS also opposes and works to end other forms of cruelty to animals. They work with students, grassroots groups, individuals, parents, teachers, the media, and members of the scientific community to legally and effectively end the use of animals in science through education, advocacy, and the development of alternative methods to animal use.

Charity Navigator

Charity Navigator helps charitable givers make intelligent giving decisions by providing information on over five thousand charities and by evaluating the financial health of each of these charities. They ensure our evaluations are widely used by making them easy to understand and freely available to the public. By guiding intelligent giving, they aim to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace, in which givers and the charities they support work in tandem to overcome our nation's most persistent challenges.
