WRR Thaws Out After Winter Ice Storm

by Angela Grimes, Director of Operations

I am happy to say that the recent ice storm has left WRR fairly unscathed. The fallen branches have been cleaned up and fed to sheep, goats, primates, and non-native birds. The thankfully minor fence repairs on the domestic cat yard have all been done and we seem to be back to a more normal operating system, despite this bitter cold.

My hat goes off to the staff and interns who were marooned at the Kendalia sanctuary for three days, one of which without electricity. They worked day and night to feed, provide dry hay, do heater checks every three hours to be sure warm houses are maintaining a comfortable temperature and cook oatmeal, beans and rice and other protein and carbohydrate rich foods to keep everyone well cared-for through the storm. Their dedication is much appreciated by everyone, and on behalf of the animals, we thank them.
