November 2007

November is upon us, and our thoughts turn to friends and family, evenings by a fire, and the joy of the holidays. The change of seasons can also mean danger for the wildlife living in your communities, and we have a few thoughts for them.

•

Before you light that first fire of the season, please check to be sure no raccoons or opossums have made your chimney their summer nesting site. Capping vacant chimneys is a great way to ensure that no animals make their home there.

•

As the days grow shorter and darkness arrives earlier each day, more people are driving to and from work at dusk and dawn, the times of day when many animals are most active. This is the time of year when WRR's rehabilitation clinic sees the greatest number of injured adult deer, raccoons, and others. Please be very watchful for deer who may be darting out from the trees and brush on the side of the road. The best way to avoid injuring or killing a animal with your car is to simply slow down.

The holiday season is a wonderful time of year to remember and honor those whom you care about. Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation has many ways that your generosity towards others can benefit the animals in our care. Please see the "'Tis the Season…" article for ways that you can help WRR this time of year.

Warmest regards,

Angela
