Season Begins
by Angela Grimes, Associate Executive Director
The first of the tiny squirrels and opossums
have arrived, and we know that fawns and baby birds will be
here soon. Thanks to the winter preparations and planning
by WRR Clinic Supervisor Petra Franzen, Baby Season has kicked
off smoothly and we are well on our way to saving the lives
of the thousands of young and newborn skunks, raccoons, bobcats,
and the many others we will see over the next six months.
March–August are the busiest months,
and also the most expensive months to operate. The hungry
mouths require many cases of infant formula. One 5-gallon
bin of fawn formula costs $180, and we will go through dozens
of these this spring and summer. We use baby bottles and nipples,
baby food, bottle brushes, baby wipes, Pedialyte, and a number
of other things that can be found in your local discount store.
Baby Season Wish List
You Can Help!
We need your help to keep our clinic supplies
stocked:
| • |
Invite your friends and throw a baby
shower for WRR and ask them to bring something from
our Baby Season
Wish List. |
| • |
Plan a neighborhood supply drive.
Distribute the WRR Wish
List throughout your neighborhood asking people
to buy an item for WRR the next time they go shopping
and collect the items at your house one afternoon. |
| • |
Think of WRR while shopping. Buy an
item from our Wish
List and drop it off at Castle West Animal Hospital,
11105
West Avenue, San Antonio. Our volunteers will see
to it that your donation is brought to WRR when they
pick up the animals for transport to our clinic. |
If
you would like to talk about any of these ideas, please contact
