Sedna Finds Happiness in Her Golden Years

by Angela Grimes, Associate Executive Director

One year ago, an elderly, abandoned, partially blind, and partially crippled American Eskimo dog was rescued from the middle of busy San Antonio thoroughfare after almost being struck by a car. She was brought to Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation (WRR) where she received the urgent care she needed and was nursed back to health by our caring staff and eventually placed up for adoption. In addition, this gentle dog was featured in the July 2007 WRR News asking for a "special home where she can spend the few remaining years or months she may have in the company of a loving family."

And what a wonderful, loving family she found! This once ailing and discarded soul, now named Sedna, has a beautiful home with people who value her as much as she deserves. They have shared photos of her transformation over this past year. It is amazing what love and good care can accomplish. Her new family wrote to us:

Sedna was treated by WRR staff for several health
problems before she was adopted into her new home.

You do such great work and I wanted to thank you for bringing me a wonderful addition to my family, Sedna. She has come a long way. As you can see by her pictures, she has grown a beautiful coat and is soft and cuddly. Her health has improved dramatically — she has lost her tremors and holds her head high and proud. Sedna loves walks — baying like her sled-dog ancestors. She loves to play — with me, the other dogs, and by herself. She is one of the sweetest souls I've been lucky enough to have in my home. When I think of the horrible trajectory her life was on before you intervened on her behalf, I shudder. She would never have had a chance in the city shelters and yet she is an ideal companion. Rest assured that you have touched her life and through hers, many other lives.

We thank everyone who has adopted from WRR and other rescue shelters. You are the ones who truly give cats and dogs a second chance at a happy and healthy life. If you have room in your family for a furry addition, visit our Dog & Cat Adoptions page to see all of the animals currently up for adoption at WRR.
