Eduard the Dashing Donkey – A Tale of Two Donkeys

by Angela Grimes, Associate Executive Director

Eduard came to the WRR Do No Harm Farm after he was abandoned in Comfort, Texas. He had been living an average life in a fenced yard when one day the human residents moved. They took the fence with them, and left Eduard the Donkey. He spent several days walking around to the neighbors' houses looking for handouts — a little bite to eat or some fresh water to drink — before the sheriff was called to assist the hungry vagabond. Eduard was transported here and quickly made a new friend.

WRR is home to three other donkeys we call the Three Donkey Boys, all rescued several years ago. One of the Three, a beautiful white-faced boy separated himself from the companionship of the trio to pine away at our fence line for a lovely young jenny who lives next door. The jenny already had a beau of her own and had no interest in the courting brays the WRR donkey sang to her each day.

The lovesick donkey boy and our lonely vagabond, Eduard, quickly became close friends. The white-faced donkey has let his interest in the jenny next door take a backseat to his new best buddy, Eduard. Eduard is no longer wandering and looking for someone to feed him. Both have plenty of hay and fresh water and almost 200 acres to roam together, side by side. Each was seeking something and in need of someone, and they have found it in each other in the peaceful life of the Do No Harm Farm.
