WRR's
First Walk on the Wild Side a Big Success
by Amy Hone, Development Director
Dogs and people alike enjoyed a beautiful
day walking for wildlife. Saturday, September 27, saw our
first annual Walk on the Wild Side event kick off in
Boerne's Main Plaza, sponsored by Frost Bank Boerne. After
coffee by Starbucks and breakfast and coffee from the Boerne
Grill, everyone was awake and ready to go. World Karate got
the walkers warmed up and our dogs led the way down Main Street.
Everyone stopped for a treat at Snowflake Donuts before heading
back toward the plaza.
Once the walkers returned, the fun really
got started. With lunch provided by the Boerne Grill and Martha's
Mexican Café, music by the Mike Porter Band, balloon
twisting by Balloonamations, face painting by the Boerne Community
Theater, enrichment activities for WRR's sanctuary residents
led by Hill Country Montessori, and many other activities,
the festival atmosphere continued into the afternoon.
WRR would like to thank the many sponsors
who supported this event, including Frost Bank of Boerne,
Earthwise, World Karate, WRR Board of Directors, Mike and
Patty Loftis, Pam Lewis and Associates, and Bank of the Hills.
We also received donations to make this event possible from
the businesses mentioned previously and also Penske Truck
Rental – San Antonio Airport, Cibolo Nature Center,
Rainbow Senior Center, Circle H Signs, K&C Supply, and
many more.
Plan to join us next year for this great event
on October 3, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. in the Main Plaza in Boerne,
Texas.
