Cougar
Cubs Arrive at WRR
by Angela Grimes, Associate Executive Director
Two mountain lion cubs from the San Diego
area arrived at Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation (WRR)
on February 12. Orphaned and too young to care for themselves,
the approximately 4–6-month-old mountain lions were
found by members of the public in an urban area of southern
California. They were captured by the California Department
of Fish & Game and transferred to The Fund for Animals,
a local sanctuary.
The Fund for Animals contacted WRR because
they were unable to provide a lifetime home for the cats.
We agreed to take in the young felines and provide a permanent
home for them in a 4½-acre wooded enclosure with a
rocky bluff.
These youngsters are full of energy and quite
adorable. Many of the cougars who live in neighboring enclosures
came by to investigate with all the curiosity one can expect
from such intelligent cats. The new cubs will spend some time
adjusting to their home here at the WRR sanctuary and growing
a bit before being introduced to their new family.
