Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation has been working nonstop for almost fifty years to relieve the suffering and save the lives of animals in often desperate situations. In that time, we have provided care for over 250,000 animals in need of rehabilitation or Sanctuary. These animals have come from the streets of cities, laboratories, zoos, the pet trade—the list truly goes on and on. As long as there is a need, our work will not change. WRR will always be here to help animals who have nowhere else to go.

To adapt throughout the years, we have continually updated animal care procedures, our volunteer program, staffing structures, budget, and our location. Every change has had one guiding purpose: to provide the best possible care to the animals who depend on us.

Now, we want to share an important upcoming change with you. Having two locations that are 50 miles apart is simply not working well any longer. From finding staff for our San Antonio site, to finding enough volunteers to transport animals to Kendalia (something that must be done several times a day), to getting the animals who need medical treatment to our vets in a timely manner, our existing structure must be modified to better serve the animals. As of October 21, 2025, we will consolidate our locations to our sanctuary in Kendalia. This will remove the need for our San Antonio location on Rustic Lane.

When animals are brought to our San Antonio location, some are able to be rehabilitated on-site but the vast majority are transported to our 212-acre Kendalia location for care before they are released back into the wild. Animals in rehabilitation may stay with us for several weeks to several months; our Kendalia location offers them more space to support their healing.

Please note that we are not changing which animals we are helping, the extent to which we provide care, or our intake hours. We will remain open and available every day of the year. The only thing that will change is where the animals will be brought for care.

We recognize that many compassionate rescuers may not be able to make it to our Kendalia location. To address this, we are expanding our Community Outreach efforts to ensure that if you can’t bring an animal to us you have the resources to help re-nest or reunite infant animals with their parents in the wild or to dispatch a WRR Rescue Volunteer to pick them up. We are also increasing the number of hotline specialists available.

Please know that Wildlife Rescue will still be here 365 days a year to accept and provide care for animals in need. We are immensely grateful to every rescuer who helps, to our incredible volunteers who support animal transport and operations, and to our community of supporters who help make our work possible.
